What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a system of therapy and treatment which emphasizes the body's intrinsic ability to heal and maintain itself. Natural remedies such as herbs and foods are just some of the methods used to bring about health rather than surgery or medication.
Naturopathy uses many different treatment modalities, with a holistic approach to patient care. Orthodox medicine may also be recommended alongside their treatments, if this is required.
What is a Naturopath?
A Naturopath is a health practitioner who applies natural therapies. A Naturopaths spectrum comprises far more than fasting, nutrition, water, and exercise; it includes approved natural healing practices such as Homeopathy, Acupuncture, and Herbal Medicine, as well as the use of modern methods like Bioptron Light Therapy, Infrared bed (Formostar), and Colon Hydrotherapy.
At a time when modern technology, environmental pollution, poor diet, and stress play a significant role in the degradation of health, a Naturopath’s ability to apply natural methods of healing is of considerable importance.
By using natural therapies, Naturopathy is able to treat both acute and chronic ailments successfully. Frequently, a Naturopath is the last resort in a patient’s long search for health. Providing personalized care to each patient, the naturopath sees humankind as a holistic unity of body, mind, and spirit.
Naturopathic Treatment & Different Levels of Care
First level of care – Symptomatic Care
An initial consultation normally takes about 25 minutes. During this time questions are asked about your condition, medical history (personal and family history), diet and lifestyle, and any conventional treatments that you may be taking. You will be given a short health appraisal form to complete.
Your vital statistics will also be noted during the consultation. That is your blood pressure, temperature, height, weight and BMI.
During the consultation several tests will be performed such as the Zinc Test and ph test. A tongue, finger and nail diagnosis is often used to get a better picture of the complete health state.
Second level of care - Corrective Care
This is a more in depth consultation process. Consultation will be about 50 minutes in duration. During that time a more through investigation is undertaken. You will be required to complete a full health appraisal form.
Once all of the information is gathered, a treatment plan is formulated that addresses all areas of your life, providing the body with the optimum chance to heal itself. The treatment plan may include advice on diet, lifestyle, exercise, herbal medicine, homeopathic treatments, or other suitable remedies. You may also be referred to other practitioners as part of an integrated health care approach.
Third level of care – Maintenance Care
Maintenance care recommendation to see your Naturopath every 3 months, where a program is individualized and tailored for you as a unique individual to maintain optimal health. Usually 25 minutes.
