What is Kinesio Taping?
Since development by Dr. Kenzo Kase nearly 25 years ago in Japan, Kinesio
Taping has become the gold standard for therapeutic rehabilitative taping in the United States.
The method and tape allows the individual to wear and receive the therapeutic
benefits on a 24 hours per day basis, and can be worn for several days per
application.
The Kinesio Taping method involves taping over and around muscles in order to either:
• Assist and give muscle support
• To prevent over-contraction of muscles
The first technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance.
The second technique helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps
provide facilitation of lymph flow 24 hours per day.
Over a contusion, Kinesio Tex Tape demonstrates the ability to increase
circulation and facilitate lymphatic flow. The results are seen within 12 hours of

How does Kinesio Taping work?
Kinesio Taping alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by lifting the skin. The taped portion forms convolutions in the skin, thus increasing interstatial space. The result is that pressure and irritation are taken off
the neural/sensory receptors. Then, slowly, pressure is taken off the lymphatic system, allowing it to drain more freely.
The taped area forms convolutions then it increases the space between the skin and muscles and promotes the flow of lymphatic fluid.
